Can we really create viral social media campaigns? Or can we only create great content and hope it goes viral? How do we ‘join the conversation’? What essential KPIs do we need to consider when measuring a viral campaign? Despite social media being a widely discussed topic, these are some of the key questions which remain unanswered and which make up the core focus of upcoming conference, Social Media Marketing 2010. When Murray Newlands invited me to attend as a guest blogger, I was only too happy to accept.
The conference, Social Media Marketing 2010 will bring together marketing and social media experts to share their experiences and answer the question; how do we harness the viral power of social networks? Event organisers, Murray Newlands and Luke Brynley-Jones have packed the day with panel discussions, Q&As and interactive presentations incorporating case studies with lessons learnt from leading brands in B2C and B2B. There will also be a Touch & Try area where some of the discussed social media marketing tools can be demonstrated and tried.
A host of interesting guest speakers
The guest speakers and their experiences can really make an event. I am excited to hear that Chris Brogan (video conference) will be present, his talk will urge us to stop thinking about social media in terms of tools and instead focus on how social media can be used to achieve business objectives. Matt Rhodes head of client services, FreshNetworks will also be on hand to talk about how retail business can make effective use of social media, referring to his work on the recent Jimmy Choo Foursquare campaign. I’m also looking forward to meet Mat Morrison, Philip Sheldrake, Andrew Walker, Steve Parker and Richard Sedley, Loic Moisand and Brian Solis amongst the many guest speakers.
The videos below provide an overview of what to expect.
Mat Morrison – mad professor, The Magic Bean Laboratory on how to make messages travel.
Philip Sheldrake – founder & partner, Influence Crowd, raising the question ‘Can we really create viral social media campaigns, or can we only create great content and hope it goes viral?
Andrew Walker – managing director, Thin Martian & Steve Parker – director of digital media, Cohn & Wolfe on their work with Universal Pictures on Twitter campaign The Story of Anvil, a highly effective viral campaign.
Richard Sedley – director of customer engagement, cScape, talks about the psychology of persuasion over social media networks.
